Good Fiction
Can anyone recommend some good fiction to read? I've never got a shortage of chrispy creme christian books to read, but have some space in some travels the next couple of weeks and so keen to disengage and kill time with a good read or two... and I am a guy, so its a better read when people die, the world nearly ends but doesnt due to some gadgets or outlandish Macgyver manoeuvre's.... actually whatever, just a good story...

For action and thrills I don't think you can beat the old favourites, Robert Ludlum and Tom Clancey. I re-read the Bourne trilogy recently.... much different from where they went with the movies... but lots of fun. Erik van Lustbader also wrote a fourth Bourne book "The Bourne Legacy" with permission of the Ludlum estate. That was pretty good too.
For more quirky fantasy humour try some Terry Pratchett with his Discworld novels.

Girlfriend in Coma -Douglas Coupland.
people die, the earth (nearly) ends, there are outlandish manoeuvres...

You can't go past Clive Cussler's books for a bit of adventure and much saving of the day. (Recommend reading with tongue firmly planted in cheek however.)

Shantaram - Gregory David Roberts. Best book ever written. Well, after the Bible anyway. There's everything in it, the works. And Johnny Depp is producing and starring in the movie. Honest, you won't be disappointed. Amen.

All these ideas are good... but if you want a book you could eat for dinner then you can't go past Raymond Chandler and his series of novels about the private eye Philip Marlow. Seriously, smartest writing ever. Murder, seedy underground clubs, fast ladies and booze. Some wicked one liners that will make you wet yourself like "Her face looked like a collapsed lung" Bloody brilliant. This guy invented the private eye. Can't go past it.

My name too is Sam Harvey (Samantha to be exact) and although I dig the blog, I must say I slightly resent the fact that I found you instead of moi when I went to self-validate via Google. It hurts, but never the less, read Dalton Trumbo's, Johnny Got His Gun. It won't take you more than a day or so to read unless you ride the short bus, and it's a super intense piece of fiction. Plenty of blood and guts, bad grammar, and subtle social commentary on war. I suggest you put it on the list from one Sam Harvey to another.

The God of Small Things (awesome)
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
More, Now, Again by Elizabeth Wurztel (absolute favourite of all time - about drug addiction etc, hilarious and poignant)
I strongly suggest you read that last one, I've probably read it about 5 times and it was flippin wicked, written by the woman who wrote Prozac Nation (which is also good but not in comparison to that one). If you don't like it I'll give you $50 (to go with the other $50 I owe you for proudly wearing stubbies to the bogan party)

I was going to say anything by Douglas Coupland is always good to read!
Also, this may not be what you are looking for - but the best book I have read lately is "The Messiah of Morris Avenue" - easy to read but made me thing as well.
Blessings!
