Quotes
Here are all the different quotes I used for my talk on Sunday Night entitled "Jesus calls us to do difficult things". I was really excited by some of the gems that I discovered for this talk, and they all fire me up for different reasons... Go ahead and pillage them for your own talks or conversations :)
When God calls a person, He bids them to come and die
Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Jesus death on the cross was not to free us from dying but to free us from the fear of dying. Jesus came to liberate us so that we would die up front. And then live. Jesus wants to take us to places that only dead men and women can go.
Erwin McManus
One of the most insidious maladies of our time (is); the tendency in most of us to observe rather than act, avoid rather than participate, not do rather than do; the tendency to give in to the sly, negative, cautionary voices that constantly counsel us to be careful, to be controlled, to be wary and prudent and hesitant and guarded in our approach of this complicated thing called living.
Arthur Gordon.
Great faith is the product of great fights. Great testimonies are the outcome of great tests. Great triumphs can only come out of great trials.
Smith Wigglesworth
If it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures, sweep streets like Beethoven composed music… Sweep streets like Shakespeare wrote poetry. Sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will have to praise and say; Here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well.
Martin Luther King
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, “Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?” Actually who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
Nelson Mandela
Go as far as you dare,
for you cannot go beyond the reach of God.
Give as extravagantly as you like,
for you cannot spend all the riches of God,
Care as lavishly as you are able,
for you cannot exhaust the love of God.
Keep journeying as a servant
for God will always be with you,
And the blessing of God the Father,
the Son and the Holy Spirit
be with you always.
(Blessing used by the Bishop of Wellington)

I especially liked the quote from Martin Luther King. I am sitting here at work and I was just thinking about how boring and useless my job seems. Thanks for the encouragement.
