XXX Church

So for the last couple of years on my computer I have this software called "X3 watch" that sends an email to a couple of guys I love and respect with a list of questionable websites that I might have visited, its a great accountability piece of software that has saved my bacon on more than a few occasions. You can download it from the http://www.xxxchurch.com/ website (how cool is that name). Anyway this is not a post on p0rn and my battle with it etc etc (will go there sometime in the future).
What I wanted to draw attention to is the newsletter this month that X3 send out. There is a brilliant yarn about the work this crew is doing - hanging out with Ron Jeremy, its pretty difficult to explain, but I was really challenged by this article. Check it out. And download the software lads.

    Oh, that is brilliant.

It must have been quite a wrestling match. porn vs Preacher, followed off by a performance from Stryper!

Might be a good article to discuss over nothing coffee sometime.

  2. Blogger Debs Says:

Stryper!!! Where? When? Sign me up! They are flippen awesome!!

Also, let me remind the good folk reading this that "download the software lads" should also be "download the software lasses". I have seen too many young women that have been smashed around by their addiction to porn. Go you boys for talking about it and being accountable etc, that's flippen great. But let's also remember that this is also a womens issue, and probably bigger than most people realise.

Not to discount the X3 thing, its all good. I also think the more women talking about this sort of thing the better. It is fully a taboo subject with us gals, and has potentially very harmful long term consequences in our lives, our marriages, our relationships with friends and God etc etc.

    Blah blah, ranty rant rant.

    Debs,

To add to your point, I read a report yesterday that prportion of Women viewing porn online may represent almost 50% of the total. . . You're right, it's not just a male issue.

Yeah I've been shocked a number of times by the kind of things that some girls come up with. It's amazing how a lot of goodie good Christian girls have no idea about what most girls know. The differences in worldly knowledge are still greater on the girls’ side than the guys... at least it seems to be that way.

... that generalisation is probably gonna get me into trouble.

Also, have been thinking a lot about that article today (X3 newsletter). I can understand the predicament the guy would have been in. I guess sometimes it's ok to go even when you dont want to - and sometimes it's ok NOT to go when you dont want to. It's about your own personal boundries and temptations I guess, and also about listening to that nagging feeling in your gut that is saying, man, this aint right, i should get out of here.

Some time ago I was invited to a persons big birthday bash, someone I knew from my old life. I was in turmoil in the week leading up to the party because I knew that there would be a lot of intense drug taking etc, and generally a scene that I have deliberately avoided in the past couple of years.

But I really had to question my motives - was i not going because I was a Christian now and Christians don't do that sort of thing (the devil might be there, oohhhhh) or was it a genuine unease with being back in that lifestyle again? After some thought I concluded that no i wouldnt go because I was not ready to be in that environment, the memories of my old life were too fresh.

Now however I would happily go along and have a great old time drinking my 3 wines and driving home again, chatting to some pretty smashed people and dancing with some cocaine addicts. Bring it!

So yeah thanks Sam for highlighting that particular article.

Last night on the news a Lawyer was saying that she couldn't believe that Women in this country still thought it was okay to have 3 glasses of wine and drive home. . . .

Oh that generalisation will get you into trouble.... just you watch ....

no seriously. I am all in favour of the work of XXXChurch I think they do some fantastic stuff. I know that sounds really shallow, but I really am a major advocate for their work and have also been really impressed with the light that soulpurpose has been bringing to this issue lately too.

Interestingly there was some survey out in the US just the other day that said http://www.christianpost.com/article/20070605/27799_Porn_Addiction_Flooding_Culture,_Church.htm 50% of Christian Men and 20% of Christian women were addicted to porn. (note they only interviewed 1000 people)
